My Favorite Restaurants and Dishes in Zagreb, Croatia
No matter where you are traveling in Croatia, you will most likely fly into Zagreb. If you are staying for a night or two might as well make it a delicious experience and check out my top picks from the country’s capital.
Stari Fijaker
Peasant’s Lunch – comes with ham sausage, cabbage and stuffed cabbage leaves. Everything was well seasoned and tasted perfect. The sausages are made special for this dish and each bite has the wonderful snap. Also try the shepherd’s stew made from pork, beef, veal and venison.
Stari Fijaker- Mesnička ul. 6, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia
Pri Zvoncu
I tried the grilled pork, which is cooked over hard wood coals, deep dried potato croquettes and Zagreb Schnitzel which is veal stuffed with ham and cheese rolled, battered and deep fried.
Pri Zvoncu- Ul. Vrbik XII 1, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia
Otto and Frank
Do not miss the Zagreb Breakfast: cottage cheese and sour cream spread on a thick toast topped with bacon, a salad made of spinach, lettuce, radish and green onions and finished with crispy fried poached eggs.
Otto and Frank- Ul. Ivana Tkalčića 20, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia
La Struk
Zvonimir’s recommendation is the strukli with truffles. Cheese and truffle wrapped in dough and baked. Made to order and worth the wait.
La Struk- Skalinska ul. 5, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia
Restaurant Agava
Pick the Pasticada with dumplings. A stew of fork tender beef slicked with house made gnocchi like dumplings. The sauce is heavenly packed with flavor without being too heavy.
Restaurant Agava- Ul. Ivana Tkalčića 39, 10000, Zagreb, Croatia
Gallo
Get the black fuzi truffle pasta. A hand made pasta dish with a generous shaving of black truffles in a creamy sauce. Although the portion looks small, it is packed with heavy flavor that will satisfy the every truffle craving.
